چکیده

Objective This clinical note describes a patient who presented with acute basilar artery occlusion and persistent primitive proatlantal artery. Case Presentation We present the case of an 82‐year‐old woman sudden onset left‐sided weakness. Cross‐sectional imaging revealed She then underwent successful mechanical thrombectomy. Complete reperfusion was achieved; thereafter, she recovered well from ischemic stroke discharged home. Discharge modified Rankin Scale score <2. Conclusion is first report thrombectomy in Embryonic carotid vertebral anastomosis rarely persists adult patients. Prompt accurate recognition these embryonic anastomoses paramount importance interpreting cross‐sectional planning revascularization procedures.

Endovascular Mechanical Thrombectomy in Basilar Artery Occlusion: Initial Experience

OBJECTIVE This study was conducted to assess the efficacy and safety of endovascular mechanical thrombectomy (EMT) for patients diagnosed with basilar artery (BA) occlusion. MATERIALS AND METHODS We retrospectively analyzed clinical and imaging data of 16 patients diagnosed with BA occlusion who were treated with endovascular intervention from July 2012 to February 2013. Direct suction using ...

Mechanical thrombectomy with stent retrievers in acute basilar artery occlusion.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Basilar artery occlusion remains one of the most devastating subtypes of ischemic stroke. The prognosis is poor if early recanalization is not achieved. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the safety and technical feasibility of self-expanding retrievable stents in the endovascular treatment of acute basilar artery occlusion. MATERIALS AND METHODS Twenty-four pati...

Type I persistent proatlantal artery associated with fusiform subclavian artery aneurysm: Report of one case.

We report a 61 years old male presenting with a right cerebral infarction, along with a type I persistent left proatlantal artery (PA), which is a form of primitive carotid-basilar anastomosis. The patient had an absence of the ipsilateral vertebral artery (VA) and hypoplasia of the contralateral VA, while the basilar artery was supplied by the PA. Other vascular anomalies present were a fusifo...

Mechanical thrombolysis in ischemic stroke attributable to basilar artery occlusion as first-line treatment.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE To report results of mechanical disruption or retrieval of thrombus as first-line treatment in patients with stroke attributable to occlusion of the basilar artery, in particular regarding efficiency and safety. METHODS In 12 consecutive patients with acute stroke attributable to basilar occlusion, mechanical disruption or thrombus retrieval using various loop-shaped to...

Mechanical Thrombectomy of Acute Basilar Artery Occlusion: Single Center Experience

Acute basilar artery occlusion (BAO) is associated with a very poor outcome and has the highest mortality rate among intracranial large-vessel occlusions [1,2]. The main causes of acute BAOs are a atherothrombotic occlusion, due to local thrombosis on a stenosis, and embolic occlusions, due to cardiac or arterioarterial thromboembolism. Atherothrombotic occlusions account for 26-36% and embolic...
